Maui Family Trip Day 4: Assembly of Baraat

People have asked if I was a flower girl or if Mommy was a bridesmaid. In Auntie Niti's wedding, there weren't any of these. It was an Indian wedding, very different from what we are used to (no big white wedding dress, no bouquets, etc). In an Indian wedding, the groom rides in on a horse or elephant. Since they couldn't rent an elephant, Uncle Amit rode in on a white horse.

We saw the horse trainers setting up the beautiful, ornate white horse.

Uncle Amit had to ride the horse down the driveway of the Four Seasons to the hotel. All the people had to be in front of the horse.

The only thing is, Dei Dei left his shoe in the car and we couldn't go back to the car because then we'd be behind the groom on his horse.

It was a joyful and festive procession with music playing. A stereo was pushed along the sidewalk. A drummer was also beating his drum. People are supposed to dance as they walk down the driveway in front of the groom on horseback. It's a dancing parade!

It was extremely hot so we fell asleep.

The groom even got his own parasol.

He must have been so hot in his groomswear!

Poor Dei Dei was wearing a suit too. We had to go inside to keep cool.

Inside the Four Seasons, I saw another fountain that I liked. You can see how sweaty I was!

This is where the bride's family greets the groom. Uncle Amit said they had originally asked The Four Seasons to ride the horse inside to the courtyard, but they said no. So he had to dismount and walk into the hotel.

It was inside a pretty courtyard.

Finally, the groom made it! Rose petals were sprinkled on the groom by the bride's mom. Both sides of the family greeted each other, some of the men gave hugs and lifted each other.

Daddy and Dei Dei enjoyed watching everything.

Next: the wedding ceremony.
